Family Law Overview
Experience. Reputation. Results.
Our family law practice represents a large portion of the work we do at Ham & Associates, and we've become successful building a reputation on positive results. We understand the particulars of family law in the state of Alabama and can put our experience to work for you.
Divorce
We have a wide range of strategies that we can put in place to reach your goals in the often-complicated process of divorce. From negotiation to mediation to aggressive litigation, we put your goals at the forefront when dealing with issues such as property division, child custody, spousal maintenance and more.
While we encourage clients to consider strategies of negotiation and mediation when appropriate to avoid lengthy and costly court battles, we shape our recommendations to your goals. We have a reputation for acting as both strong negotiators and formidable litigators.

Child Custody and Support
One of the most significant issues during divorce is who will get custody of the children and who will have to pay child support. Not only are we able to fight for your long-term parental rights, we can also take immediate action on your behalf when you initiate the divorce proceedings and request temporary custody during the proceedings.
While much of the child support issue is determined by Alabama's Rule 32, we can help you negotiate or litigate for a reasonable settlement.
See our child custody and support page for more information, or contact us today to schedule a free initial consultation.
Spousal Support (Alimony) and Property Division
The most common issue people face during a divorce is who will take ownership over the assets acquired during the marriage. In many divorce proceedings, parties find that the best deals comes from negotiation or mediation, instead of relying on a judge to decide all of the issues. However, when a divorce becomes a battle, you need a lawyer on your side who knows how to fight for your interests.
In many cases, acting quickly in the divorce proceedings can give you temporary ownership of your home or your car, which can give you the upper hand in keeping long-term ownership.
